Top 3 Common Mistakes People Make When Applying for a Job in the Supply Chain Field

by Altaf

The supply chain field is a competitive industry with many job opportunities. Even so, people often make simple mistakes when it comes to applying for a new position that can cost them the job of their dreams.

Have you ever applied for a job in the supply chain field, maybe even received an interview, but after all was said and done you didn’t get the position because of one glaring mistake?

I have to admit that I have made several mistakes when applying for a job in this field. This is not to say that all mistakes people make when applying for Supply Chain Jobs are the same; they vary, and some of them can be quite serious.

Here are three of the most common mistakes people make when applying for a job in this field.

1. Putting all your eggs in one basket

Supply chain professionals must be able to work remotely and manage multiple projects. Also, they may have to work overtime to get their jobs done. Consequently, many professional supply chain workers require two working days off each week. However, they often forget to take enough time for themselves.

This is why they should always be able to work from home at least one day a week. Meanwhile, professional supply chain managers are sometimes required to work at their job site for extended hours. This means that the work pressure may be too much for people who are working on their days off.

Therefore, to prevent this situation from happening, you must remember that you will always have work to do after your day off.

2. Ignoring the importance of networking

Being reliable is an important trait for some supply chain professionals to exhibit. This means that people in this field should make sure they are able to work around their schedules and maintain punctuality.

However, many people forget this when they are applying for a new position. They think they do not need to make time for networking or having lunch with clients.

In reality, they should not be afraid of networking. In fact, having lunch with clients can help them build a better relationship with their clients. As a result, it will be easy for them to get the information they need to get new work.

3. Not being able to communicate well

Supply chain professionals must be able to interact effectively with others in the field. They also have to work well with others in a team. Communication is vital for them to be able to do this.

However, many people have bad communication skills that can hurt them in the future. One of the most common mistakes that people in this field make is being too long in their answers when talking to others. Meanwhile, they are often unable to concentrate on what others are saying because they are not listening carefully enough.

Improving your communication skills can help you get ahead of other applicants and give you a competitive edge over the competition.
